“BROUA "Straight ahead", a term used by Tunisian fishermen.”

BROUA برُوَّ

BROUA is a cross-cultural ensemble led by Tunisian composer and singer Wissem Ziadi and made up of musicians from Tunisia, France, Bosnia, Syria and the Netherlands. The group’s name comes from a word used by Tunisian fishermen to mean “straight ahead,” and conveys a sense of forward motion.

Our music draws from Tunisian folk heritage while incorporating elements of jazz, blues and Latin rhythms. With oud, guitar, flute, clarinet, bass, percussion and voice, the ensemble creates an intimate yet expansive atmosphere.

BROUA has performed across Tunisia, France, the UK and the Netherlands, appearing at festivals such as Babel Music XP, Manchester Folk Festival, Sicajazz and Nazomerfestival, where our blend of poetry and contemporary arrangements allowed the public to discover a modern vision of Tunisian musical identity.
